Bible John

Bible John is partly a retelling of one of Scotland’s darkest unsolved crimes, but is more broadly an interrogation into the ethics of true crime as entertainment, and the reasons why women in particular are so hungry for stories that have the victimisation of other women at their heart. It’s a riotous, furious, joyful exploration into violence and gender, weaving film, movement, and text, from Charlie Hartill Recipients, THESE GIRLS.

THESE GIRLS is an award-winning, female led theatre company producing new writing that focuses on the messy, complex, unresolvable questions that womxn face. Our work is defiant, collaborative, funny, and we hope it speaks to as many people as possible about the things that matter to us all. Previous work from THESE GIRLS includes: Bible John (Pleasance Charlie Hartill Theatre Reserve Recipient), Thick Skin (Samuel French New Play Award 2017) and Harry.

‘Bible John’s empathy and intelligence shines through, making this hour feel full, welcoming and like something that should be shared.
